My husband and I tried a new restaurant in our community here. It has been here for years but we had never been to it before since we didn't live here. It is so fun finding all these new places. Every day is an adventure in our new town.
After dinner we were headed to the grocery store to get a few things and I commented on how pretty the sunset way and that we should drive up the mountain to catch it. My wonderful husband did a U turn and did just that! We got up the nearby mountain just behind town just in time to catch a truly AMAZING sunset. Bright, bright purple shining out from behind the mountains and across Cook Inlet (named after Captain James Cook the famous sailor who 'discovered' it in the 1700's). He is the same captain who discovered Hawaii etc. Anyway, we live on Cook Inlet which is a small arm extending up from the Gulf of Alaska out of the North Pacific Ocean. On the other side are mountains and even some volcanoes. The sun was gorgeous and purple blasting through the mountains and clouds and across the Inlet. On a clear day you can see all the way to Denali (also known as Mt. McKinley) the tallest mountain in North America. I guess I really can't complain about our new location!
In order to get up to this vantage point we drove up, up, up, up through exclusive fancy neighborhoods of very nice houses perched on the hillside. At the top is open space though with an access trail up the rest of the mountain and into the Chugach State Park. It is gorgeous! I wish I could show you a picture but my husband left his phone (gasp, shocking) at home. I had my phone but it is so full there was no memory left to take a picture!
So, I will just have to go back and get a picture of another pretty sunset to show you all!
There were birds singing up there too and it was so nice. Cars lined the road to get a view of the sunset so next time I will want to hike up further away from people.

I am enjoying little perks of living here. This is a big one for me though...a close access point to AMAZING views and green space. It only takes us 15 or 20 minutes to get up there at the most from our home. I can look up from here and see about where we were!
We are busy planning where we want to live eventually when we can afford a real house. We were debating living up there...my husband was not sure if he would want to be up there in an earthquake. That is ok, I would be happy with some places down by the river on the other side of town as well. Next time we will have to drive over there to look at those!
Good night everyone,
Jessica
